Buc-ee's Enforces Service-Animal Policy and Highlights Unwritten Rules

Texas‑based travel plaza chain Buc‑ee's has posted new signage that draws a clear line between service animals and other pets. The signs state that only animals trained to perform a task for a person with a disability—generally dogs and, in limited cases, miniature horses—are permitted under the Americans with Disabilities Act, while emotional‑support or comfort animals are not recognized. The posting spurred a mixed reaction online, with some praising the stricter enforcement and others questioning the ban on non‑service pets.

At the same time, Buc‑ee's continues to promote a set of informal, often‑enforced “unwritten rules” for customers. These include prohibitions on parking large trucks or staying overnight at the locations, restrictions on using gift cards for fuel purchases, and specific meal‑service times such as a 4 a.m. start for brisket breakfast tacos and an 11:30 a.m. start for the signature brisket sandwich. Together, the signage and the broader etiquette guidance reflect the chain’s effort to manage the customer experience across its many locations.
