Buc-ee’s expands footprint despite signs of slowing momentum
Buc-ee’s is continuing its nationwide expansion despite recent data suggesting a slight slowdown in momentum. The Texas-based retailer recently opened its first Arkansas location in Benton, bringing its total footprint to 58 stores. The company has announced plans for six additional locations slated for 2027 in Louisiana, Kansas, Tennessee, Florida, Texas, and Georgia.
According to data from research firm Numerator, while Buc-ee’s annual trips have more than doubled since 2019, certain metrics have slipped. Household penetration fell from 33.5% in 2025 to 33.3% for the year ending July 31, and purchases of private label brands declined by 3 million households. Additionally, the chain’s share of gas and convenience store trips dropped half a point, while competitors Wawa and Sheetz each gained 0.7 points.
Despite these shifts, Buc-ee’s maintains high customer satisfaction. The chain holds a net satisfaction score of 90, exceeding the industry benchmark of 84. Shoppers also rate the store environment and value higher than the industry average.
