Buc-ee's files new trademark lawsuit against Ohio store after John Oliver challenge

The suit was filed days after HBO’s *Last Week Tonight* host John Oliver aired a July 26 segment daring the company to sue over a parody merchandise line called “Buc‑Off,” which features a squirrel mascot and a logo resembling Buc‑ee's branding. The parody items, sold by distributor Nadel with proceeds pledged to Hunger Free America, were not the direct target of the lawsuit. Buc‑ee's has a history of aggressive enforcement, having previously sued other small businesses with cartoon animal logos in Texas, Ohio and Georgia. The company’s general counsel said Buc‑ee's does not plan to pursue legal action over the parody merchandise, but the new Ohio case continues its pattern of protecting its trademark.
