Buc-ee's sues Ohio's Beaver's Mini Mart over trademark, sparking local support

Buc-ee's, the Texas‑based travel‑center chain, filed a federal trademark lawsuit in late July against Beaver's Mini Mart, a longtime neighborhood convenience store in Beavercreek, Ohio. The suit claims the store's smiling cartoon beaver logo, color scheme and branding could confuse customers with Buc-ee's own mascot.

Ohio residents rallied behind the small business, organizing a cash‑mob and encouraging purchases at the mini mart. Local bakery The Original Goodie Shop in Upper Arlington began selling special Beaver's Mini Mart cookies that feature the store’s logo and address, donating $1 from each $3 cookie to help cover legal costs. Owner Emilie Smith said, “When you’re a small business and you receive a cease and desist, you probably don’t have the funds to fight a giant corporation like Buc-ee’s in court.” Buckeye Lake Brewery also offered limited‑edition T‑shirts, with all profits directed to the store’s defense.
