Bucaramanga-Cúcuta highway blocked by property tax protests
Citizens have blocked the highway connecting Bucaramanga and Cúcuta to protest increases in cadastral valuations and the resulting impact on 2027 property tax payments. The demonstrations have caused significant traffic disruptions, particularly at kilometer 17 and kilometer 22 of the road between the Santander and Norte de Santander departments.
Protesters have implemented intermittent passage, allowing vehicles to pass for short intervals before re-closing the road for extended periods. In addition to the main highway, demonstrations have been reported in the Bucaramanga metropolitan area, specifically at the El Buey bridge in Piedecuesta and the Papi Quiero Piña sector in Floridablanca. Cargo transporters have reportedly joined the protests, further complicating regional mobility.
