Bucaramanga citizens petition Presidency to resume La Virgen–La Cemento highway project

More than 3,700 signatures have been submitted to the Presidency of Colombia demanding the resumption of the La Virgen–La Cemento dual carriageway project. The infrastructure work, which is considered vital for mobility in northern Bucaramanga and the Santander region, has been stalled for decades due to financial, technical, and land acquisition issues.

The initiative is led by the Veeduría Ciudadana Doble Calzada Vía La Virgen–La Cemento. Key obstacles include the acquisition of 125 properties; 32 of these are under the responsibility of the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), which has approximately 38,000 million pesos allocated for the process, while the remaining 93 fall under the National Institute of Roads (Invías).

Community leaders are calling for the national government to prioritize the project, define clear funding, and establish verifiable deadlines to improve metropolitan connectivity and the transport of goods throughout the country.
