Buccino authorities investigate environmental alarm after discovery of unidentified material

An environmental alarm was triggered in Buccino after residents reported a pungent, unpleasant odor. The situation escalated when ecological operators discovered unidentified, purulent-looking material in bins near the local Justice of the Peace office in Via XVI Settembre during routine cleaning operations.

Specialized NBCR (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical, and Radiological) units from the Vigili del Fuoco were deployed to the scene, supported by the Carabinieri and Local Police, to isolate the source and secure the perimeter. Technical personnel from Arpac have collected samples of the substance for laboratory analysis to determine its exact chemical composition and potential toxicity.

Mayor Pasquale Freda issued an apology to the community for the discomfort and the initial delay in communication, stating that officials waited for verified information to avoid unnecessary panic. Preliminary assessments suggest the material may have been abandoned for decades. The affected area remains cordoned off pending laboratory results and subsequent remediation efforts.
