Buc‑ee’s expands in Florida while New Jersey bans self‑serve pumps

Texas‑based Buc‑ee’s announced four new Florida locations as part of a plan to have six stores in the state by 2029. The nearest new outlet will be in Fort Pierce, about an hour north of West Palm Beach, slated to open in late 2027 or early 2028. The 76,000‑sq‑ft facility will feature 120 fuel pumps, 18 electric‑vehicle charging stations and extensive parking. Additional sites are planned for Tallahassee (2027), Ocala (2029) and Port Charlotte (date TBD).

In New Jersey, the chain will not open because state law requires full‑service pumps, preventing Buc‑ee’s self‑serve model. A spokesperson said, “The challenge is we can't open one until the state changes the rules on fueling," highlighting the ban’s origins in historic industry collusion rather than safety concerns. Consequently, a Buc‑ee’s location is unlikely to appear in New Jersey.
