Bucerius Kunst Forum hosts exhibition on Jewish art collectors

The Bucerius Kunst Forum in Hamburg has launched an exhibition titled ‘From Monet to Picasso,’ which highlights the influence of Jewish art collectors in Germany. The exhibition features approximately 100 works from artists such as Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Paul Cézanne, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, and Paula Modersohn-Becker.

Curated by Kathrin Baumstark and Stefan Koldehoff, the show reconstructs 15 significant collections established before 1945. These collectors played a pivotal role in establishing and promoting progressive modern art during the turn of the 20th century. During the Nazi era, these individuals were persecuted and disenfranchised, resulting in their collections being dismantled through expropriation, forced sales, and flight.

The exhibition brings together works that are currently scattered globally, with some pieces arriving in Germany for the first time from locations including New York, Tokyo, Jerusalem, and Hawaii. The exhibition is scheduled to run until March 29, 2027.
