Romanian airports record passenger surge in first half of 2026

Bucharest’s two airports – Henri Coandă International and Băneasa Aurel Vlaicu – handled a combined 8.45 million passengers in the January‑June period of 2026, a 5.08 % rise over the same span in 2025. Aircraft movements increased 3.37 % to 68,367 take‑offs and landings. Băneasa set an absolute record with 745,674 passengers, surpassing its total 2025 traffic, while Henri Coandă exceeded 7.7 million passengers.

Cluj‑Napoca International Airport marked its eighth‑ever crossing of the two‑million passenger threshold, reaching the milestone a week earlier than in 2025. The 2 000 000‑th traveler arrived on a TAROM flight from Bucharest, underscoring the airport’s growing role in Romania’s air network.

Wizz Air celebrated 20 years of operations in Romania, reporting a 50 % market share and planning to offer about 18 million seats in 2026. The carrier now bases 41 Airbus aircraft and roughly 1,900 crew members in the country, operates 232 routes to 26 international markets, and has reopened bases in Suceava, Bucharest‑Băneasa and Târgu Mureș.
