Bucharest and Kyiv propose sister city agreement
The General Council of Bucharest is set to debate a draft agreement to establish a sister city relationship with Kyiv, Ukraine. The proposal aims to consolidate friendship and mutual understanding between the two capitals, particularly following Bucharest's role in hosting thousands of Ukrainian refugees.
The agreement outlines cooperation across several sectors, including public transport, road traffic, urban infrastructure, culture, education, science, and emerging technologies. It also seeks to promote joint economic and social development projects, which may be funded through local resources or European Union funds.
Both cities intend to facilitate exchanges of expertise and best practices. Additionally, the agreement includes provisions for mutual support during crisis situations through the provision of humanitarian and political assistance. The document has received favorable reviews from the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Development, Labor, Public Works, and Administration.
