Bucharest bans rental electric scooters in parks and at street events
The Bucharest City Hall has announced a ban on rental electric scooters in the city's parks and at large-scale street events. This decision follows meetings between municipal and sector local police, city officials, and scooter operators including Lime, Bolt, and Splash.
To enforce the restriction, operators will reduce the maximum speed of scooters in these designated areas from 5 km/h to 0 km/h, effectively blocking their use. The measure aims to increase safety for both pedestrians and scooter users in crowded areas. Lime has already implemented this restriction in major parks such as Herăstrău, Cișmigiu, Tineretului, and Carol.
New regulations also stipulate that users must be at least 18 years old and should primarily use bicycle lanes. In the absence of bike lanes, travel is permitted only on roads with a maximum speed limit of 50 km/h. The ban also extends to high-traffic street events, such as 'Străzi Deschise'.
