Bucharest considers age restrictions for rented electric scooters

The Bucharest City Hall is considering a new project that would prohibit individuals under the age of 18 from using rented electric scooters. The proposal, which is set for a vote by the General Council of the Municipality of Bucharest, aims to implement stricter safety rules following reports that 242 children were hospitalized due to electric scooter accidents in the last six months.

If approved, rental operators will be required to verify users' ages through their applications using identity documents or electronic identification methods. The regulation would also introduce several other restrictions: users would be prohibited from using mobile phones, tablets, or audio headphones while riding, and riding on sidewalks, park alleys, or certain unpaved streets would be banned.
