Bucharest Converts New Tram Tracks on Chișinău Boulevard to Dedicated Bus Lane

New tram tracks installed on Chișinău Boulevard in eastern Bucharest will be repurposed as a single bus lane. Although the tram line has been modernised, trams will not run on the section.

The city’s public‑transport authority TPBI approved the plan, stating that buses 101, 243 and 335 will use the former tram carriageway in one direction, while the opposite direction will stay on the regular road. Contractor Mari Vila Com, which signed a contract worth about 25 million lei for the works, said the remaining 50 metres and the installation of bus shelters will be finished within two to three weeks.

Marin Mîndrilă, the company’s patron, explained, “if trams cannot operate here in the first phase, it makes sense to use the lane as a single bus lane.” TPBI director George Micu added that the arrangement had already been studied and approved by specialists.
