Bucharest pedestrianises Calea Victoriei for weekend classic‑car showcase

On the weekend of 18‑19 July 2026, Bucharest closed a central stretch of Calea Victoriei to motor traffic from 10:00 to 22:00. The pedestrian‑only zone runs between Boulevard Dacia and the Splaiul Independenței intersection; main intersections remain open for crossing and traffic resumes at night.

The closure is part of the "Strazi Deschise – Bucuresti, Promenada urbana" programme organised by ARCUB (the municipal cultural centre) together with the Retromobil Club Romania. A BMW Classic exhibition displays around 25 vintage BMW models built between 1960 and 1990 at the Magazinul Muzica site from 16:00 to 20:00 on Saturday. The event aims to offer residents and visitors a pedestrian promenade, cultural activity and a glimpse of automotive heritage.

In addition, the weekend hosts the final show of the Tatra tram festival, with historic Tatra tram units displayed at the Militari depot and occasional runs on several tram lines. Both attractions highlight Bucharest's push for pedestrian‑friendly public spaces and celebrate local transport history.
