Bucharest General Council to debate social housing and sanitation rules

The Bucharest General Council is set to debate several projects concerning social housing and urban sanitation. New regulations for social housing distribution aim to introduce annual tenant status verifications, contract updates, and measures to recover illegally occupied properties. The proposed rules seek to streamline support for low-income families, evacuees, victims of domestic violence, and persons with disabilities.

Additionally, the Council is reviewing a new regulation for the sanitation of Bucharest’s historic center. This includes mandatory waste collection using special bags marked with barcodes or QR codes to identify waste generators. The plan also mandates strict waste separation, limits sanitation vehicle tonnage to 3.5 tons, and imposes a specific operating window between 06:00 and 10:00 to protect pavements and manage pedestrian traffic.

Furthermore, the municipality is considering participation in a European project focused on building sustainable and climate-resilient health systems through evidence-based governance, funded under the HORIZON call.
