Bucharest hosts procession honoring Pope John Paul II

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bucharest is organizing a traditional procession through the streets of the capital to honor the relic of Saint Pope John Paul II. The event will begin at the monument dedicated to the late Pope, located near the Apostolic Nunciature at the intersection of Schitu Măgureanu Boulevard and Pictor C. Stahi Street.

Participants include Roman Catholic Metropolitan Archbishop Aurel Percă, Apostolic Nuncio Giampiero Gloder, and Greek-Catholic Bishop Mihai Frăţilă, alongside priests, monks, nuns, and the faithful from the Bucharest Archdiocese and the Saint Basil the Great Greek-Catholic Diocese. The celebrations will be broadcast live on Angelus TV.

The relic, consisting of a piece of cloth with drops of blood, was donated to Saint Joseph Cathedral in 2011 by Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz. The procession commemorates the legacy of the Pope, who was a vocal opponent of communist regimes and made a historic visit to Romania in 1999.
