Bucharest sets Guinness record with 5km table to fund pediatric hospital
Approximately 20,000 people gathered in Bucharest, Romania, to participate in the ‘Uniting Table’ event, setting a Guinness World Record for the ‘longest table made from recycled materials.’ The 5,055-meter table stretched from Unirii Boulevard to Constitution Square, in front of the Palace of Parliament.
The event served a charitable purpose, raising funds for the construction of Romania’s first pediatric psychiatry hospital. The new 3,900-square-meter facility will be located within the Obregia Hospital complex and is expected to cost approximately €16.5 million. The project is being spearheaded by the Metropolis Foundation through private donations and sponsorships.
Organizers used over five tons of food to serve participants, with leftovers intended for the Sector 6 Food Bank to support vulnerable communities. The new hospital aims to address the urgent need for modern mental health services for children, replacing outdated and overcrowded existing facilities.
