Bucharest implements new traffic and pedestrian protection measures

Authorities in Bucharest are implementing new measures to manage urban traffic and protect public spaces. The Bucharest Street Administration is currently installing flexible and metal bollards on several major thoroughfares, including Șoseaua Colentina, Bulevardul Ghencea, and Calea Plevnei. These installations aim to prevent illegal parking on sidewalks, thereby increasing pedestrian safety and improving urban organization.

Simultaneously, Bucharest City Hall has launched a public debate regarding a new regulation for heavy vehicles, such as trucks and construction machinery. The proposed rules seek to reduce road degradation and pollution by expanding tonnage restrictions and taxes across the city. Under the proposal, Zone B would be reconfigured to include areas currently without restrictions. The plan also includes updated permit fees and increased fines of up to 10,000 lei to ensure compliance and encourage transporters to use routes outside the central ring.
