Bucharest introduces road closures on Magheru and Basarab amid safety and repair work
Traffic on Bucharest’s Bulevardul Nicolae Bălcescu and Bulevardul Gheorghe Magheru was restricted after a roof on a building near the Hotel Ambasador was deemed at risk of collapsing onto the roadway. Police from the Road Brigade and fire crews were dispatched following a 112 call on 30 June, and the restrictions remained in place to allow safe removal of the hazard.
Separately, from 29 June traffic on the Pasajul Basarab between Șoseaua Nicolae Titulescu and Șoseaua Grozăvești was limited to a single lane while repair works continue. Drivers were advised to keep a safe distance and follow temporary signage. The works will shift to the opposite lane in August, with full traffic restoration planned for September. During the construction period, tram lines 4 and 11 are suspended and replaced by a temporary line 54, while additional vehicles operate on line 44 and other lines are detoured. A shuttle service (line 610) links key points including the Sector 1 City Hall and Pasajul Basarab.
