Bucharest Mayor Ciprian Ciucu addresses infrastructure and administrative challenges

Bucharest Mayor Ciprian Ciucu has identified several factors that have hindered the capital's development, including a lack of administrative continuity, frequent leadership changes, and insufficient financial resources. He noted that the city has struggled with a reduced capacity to manage large-scale projects due to historical budget constraints, specifically citing a period when 20% of the city's revenue was diverted following political conflicts.

Addressing the current widespread construction sites across the city, Ciucu explained that the simultaneous opening of multiple work zones was necessary to secure European funding and prevent the expiration of project permits. He emphasized that infrastructure repairs, particularly for tramway tracks, are essential to prevent damage to new rolling stock and to ensure the long-term functionality of the transit system. While acknowledging the public discomfort caused by these projects, the Mayor stated that the works are vital for the city's modernization.
