Bucharest Mayor Ciprian Ciucu Defends 50 Ongoing Construction Sites

Mayor Ciprian Ciucu said Bucharest is currently host to roughly 50 construction sites, including about 15 on tram lines, projects on the heating network, a major works on the Basarab Bridge and several smaller works in parks. He explained that many sites will be completed by the autumn, when schools resume, and stressed that the works are essential to avoid losing EU‑funded money and to prevent damage to tram infrastructure.

Ciucu added that the capital will need five to six years of sustained investment to fully modernise its infrastructure, citing examples such as Copenhagen, Paris and Madrid. He asked residents to tolerate the temporary inconvenience, noting that the long‑term goal is a cleaner, greener, and safer urban environment.
