Bucharest Mayor orders intervention at Sfânta Vineri Square following rat sightings

Bucharest Mayor Ciprian Ciucu has ordered increased monitoring and repeated interventions in the Sfânta Vineri Square area following viral social media footage showing rats on the sidewalks. The Mayor stated that the rodents surfaced as a result of recent sanitation efforts in the area.

City officials noted that the land is administered by the Sector 3 City Hall. Previous interventions by the Eco Igienizare Municipal Company (CMEIB) and ADP Sector 3 in May revealed abandoned waste, food scraps left by people feeding pigeons, and numerous tunnels dug in green spaces.

Authorities reported that pest control stations had been vandalized or stolen, with only seven remaining out of twenty-nine after individuals feeding birds removed them. The municipal government has requested that the Sector 3 Local Police intervene to sanction those responsible for dumping waste, leaving food scraps, and destroying treatment stations.
