Bucharest Metro Line 6 construction faces potential 2032 completion

The Pro Infrastructură Association has warned that Bucharest's Metro Line 6, which connects to Otopeni Airport, may not become functional until 2032 at the earliest. This projection comes despite the recent launch of the first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), named ‘Sfânta Parascheva’, by the Turkish-Romanian Gülermak-Somet association for the Tokyo-Otopeni section.

While official schedules suggest the TBM should reach Paris station by March 2027, experts express skepticism regarding adherence to these timelines due to difficult terrain and initial technical adjustments. The project faces significant hurdles, including funding shortages, delays in organizing tenders, and complications regarding utility relocation.

Estimates suggest the southern section of the line could be structurally complete by 2028, with the northern section following in late 2030. However, the association emphasizes that full operation depends on securing necessary state budget funds or loans to complete the northern half and install tracks and equipment.
