Bucharest municipality covers dilapidated buildings with safety mesh
The Bucharest City Hall continued its effort to protect pedestrians and improve the city’s appearance by installing metal mesh coverings on eleven abandoned buildings in the capital. The covered structures include Hanul Solacolu on Calea Moșilor, a building on Str. Blănari, and several facades on Bd. Carol, Str. Biserica Enei, Mihai Vodă, Dianei, Franceză, Ion Brezoianu, and Johann Gutenberg.
Mayor Ciprian Ciucu said the mesh solutions are temporary, inexpensive and preserve the architectural look while preventing falling plaster. The municipality plans to install additional mesh on buildings on Covaci, Dionisie Lupu and the Hanul Roșu area of Str. Franceză. A new regulation adopted by the General Council now supports façade restoration in the Old Town and protected zones, offering a program to aid owners in repairing deteriorated exteriors.
