Bucharest National Opera celebrates World Opera Day

The Bucharest National Opera is hosting a series of events to celebrate World Opera Day on October 25, 2026. The celebrations include guided tours of the opera house starting at 13:00 and 14:00, which are free to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.

To mark the occasion, which coincides with the birthday of composer Georges Bizet, the institution will present a performance of his masterpiece, ‘Carmen’. The production is part of the National Theater Festival and features direction by Ada Lupu Hausvater and conducting by Ciprian Teodorașcu. Tickets for this performance are reported as sold out.

Additional initiatives include the launch of a WhatsApp channel, ‘Prietenii ONB’, to provide updates on shows and ticket sales, and the upcoming availability of the book ‘A History of Opera’ in the institution's souvenir shop. The 2026 World Opera Day theme is ‘Uniting Voices, Building Bridges’ under the #OperaConnects campaign.
