Bucharest officials deny crane collapse during Rahova building demolition

The Bucharest City Hall has denied reports circulating on social media claiming a crane collapsed onto a building in the Rahova district. The building, located on Vicina Street in Sector 5, was severely damaged by an explosion in October 2025 and is currently undergoing controlled demolition.

During the demolition process, parts of the already damaged structure collapsed. This caused panic among nearby witnesses, some of whom mistakenly believed a crane had fallen. The demolition company, Apolodor, stated that the collapse of fragments from the heavily damaged area was anticipated as work progressed and confirmed that machinery remained in safe positions.

Controlled demolition works began in early October 2026, targeting the upper floors (levels 5 to 8) most affected by the previous year's explosion. Municipal authorities emphasized that securing operations are being conducted under safe conditions and that no crane accident occurred.
