Bucharest resident awarded €2,000 after rat bite
In July 2021 a man living in Bucharest’s Sector 1 was bitten by a rat after garbage piled up for more than 20 days when waste collection by Romprest was halted. The accumulation created conditions for rodent proliferation and delayed municipal deratisation, which the plaintiff’s lawyer, Adrian Cuculis, said jeopardised public health.
Five years later the Bucharest Tribunal found the Sector 1 City Hall and the General City Hall of Bucharest liable for failing to meet their waste‑management and pest‑control duties. Both authorities were ordered to pay the victim €2,000 in compensation for the injuries caused by the rat bite.
