Bucharest residents to return to seismic-safe housing in 2027
The Bucharest City Hall has announced that 550 people, representing 217 families, will return to their homes in 2027 following seismic consolidation projects. The residents live in historic buildings, some nearly 100 years old, which were classified as Class I seismic risk.
The first residents to return will be those from the building at 14 Biserica Enei Street, a 1936 structure that is currently 85% complete. Another historic building on Blanari Street 14 is expected to be finished by late January 2027.
Five additional residential blocks on streets including Știrbei Vodă, Boteanu, and Dianei are scheduled for completion in 2027. Furthermore, seven other properties are currently under construction, including sites intended for the future Bucharest Pinacoteca and the Gheorghe Tattarescu Museum. The municipality plans to begin consolidating approximately 20 more buildings next year using non-reimbursable funds through the National Program for the Consolidation of Buildings with High Seismic Risk (PNCCRS).
