Bucharest sectors roll out new waste tax and promenade regulations

The City Hall of Bucharest's Sector 1 published a draft regulation for a household waste collection tax. The tax, calculated per person per month in lei, will apply to all residential users from 1 January 2027 after approval by the local council. It aligns with national waste‑management laws and EU directives, replacing the current system where waste costs are covered by the municipal budget.

In Sector 6, the local administration opened a public consultation on a new regulation for the Lacul Morii promenade and island. The rules set specific hours for bicycles and electric scooters, restrict certain activities such as skateboarding and running to designated paths, and require pets to be leashed. Prohibited actions include alcohol consumption, open fires, littering and feeding stray animals. The aim is to protect users and preserve the area while allowing controlled access for pedestrians and watercraft.
