Bucharest Stock Exchange energy firms report mixed H1 2026 results

Major state-controlled energy companies listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) reported mixed operational results but generally favorable profitability for the first half of 2026. Nuclearelectrica saw profit increases driven by higher energy prices and the cessation of contributions to the Energy Transition Fund, despite lower production due to technical failures and planned maintenance. Romgaz reported a slight profit increase despite lower gas production and sales, while Transelectrica benefited from increased interconnection revenues. Conversely, Transgaz saw its consolidated profit drop by over 40% due to lower revenues and rising costs.

Rompetrol Rafinare, partially owned by the state and KMG International, returned to profitability as energy crises expanded refining margins. However, the company warned of potential risks in the second half of the year stemming from geopolitical instability and disruptions to Black Sea maritime routes.

On the broader market, the Bucharest Stock Exchange saw its total capitalization rise by over 13.5 billion lei during the week of August 10–14, 2026, reaching 724.21 billion lei. While market capitalization grew, stock transaction turnover saw a slight decline to 435.18 million lei. Banca Transilvania remained the most liquid stock, followed by OMV Petrom and Hidroelectrica.
