Bucharest Stock Exchange faces decline amid political uncertainty
The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) has experienced a significant downturn, with the BET index recording notable losses. On Wednesday, the BET index fell by 1.42% to 31,683.03 points, while all nine monitored indices ended the session in the red. Total liquidity decreased to 75.36 million lei from 135.39 million lei in the previous session.
Analysts attribute the market decline to political uncertainty surrounding the new government and anticipation of an upcoming S&P announcement. The BET index has dropped approximately 15.2% from its August 19 closing high of 36,487 points.
Several major companies have seen substantial value decreases. Romgaz and Cris-Tim shares fell by 25%, followed by Premier Energy at 22.2%, Transgaz at 22.1%, Digi at 21.9%, and Transelectrica at 21.2%. BRD also saw a decline of 19.5%. Other affected entities include Nuclearelectrica, MedLife, and OMV Petrom. Amidst the broader market pressure, Hidroelectrica and Aquila showed more resilience with smaller decreases.
