Bucharest Stock Exchange gains liquidity as Interactive Brokers enables direct trading
Interactive Brokers has enabled direct trading of shares listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) Regulated Market and local ETFs through its global platform. This move allows international investors from regions such as the US, Japan, and Singapore to access Romanian securities without intermediaries, potentially increasing market liquidity and improving price formation.
This development coincides with a period of strong performance for the Romanian market. The main BET index recently surpassed the 35,000-point threshold, following a total return of over 80% in the last 12 months.
In the week of August 17–21, 2026, the BVB saw its market capitalization increase by over 2 billion lei, reaching a total of 726.28 billion lei. Trading volume also rose significantly, with share transactions totaling 549.23 million lei for the week. Fondul Proprietatea and Banca Transilvania were among the most liquid assets during this period.
