Bucharest Stock Exchange indices slide ahead of Moody's rating review

On Wednesday the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) closed lower, with the main BET index slipping 0.57% to 36,070.41 points. The most traded shares were Banca Transilvania, OMV Petrom and Hidroelectrica, while Bittnet Systems, SSIF BRK Financial Group and Transport Trade Services posted the biggest gains and Bermas, ROCA Industry Holding and Vrancart recorded the steepest losses.

Over the week the BET index fell a total of 1.8% as investors await Moody’s pending sovereign rating decision for Romania. The rating agency currently assigns a Baa3 rating with a negative outlook; a downgrade to Ba1 would move the country into junk‑bond territory and raise borrowing costs. The weekly slide was led by Electrica (‑3.6%) and Hidroelectrica (‑2.9%), with MedLife, One United Properties and Transelectrica also declining. Positive movers included Cris‑Tim (+1.3%), Romgaz (+1%) and Premier Energy (+0.7%). Total market liquidity reached 135.7 million lei, with about a quarter of turnover generated by Hidroelectrica, the BET Patria‑TradeVille ETF and Banca Transilvania shares.
