Bursa de Valori București sees capitalization drop amid BET index correction
The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) experienced a decline in market capitalization of over 8.89 billion lei (-1.29%) during the week of September 14–18, 2026, reaching a total of 680.98 billion lei. Despite the drop in capitalization, trading volume increased significantly by over 93%, totaling 734.05 million lei.
The main BET index closed the week at 32,757.81 points. The market has entered a correction phase, having fallen more than 10% from its historic peak of 36,487 points reached on August 19. Recent volatility was attributed to political developments regarding the potential appointment of a new prime minister.
Amidst these market fluctuations, Electro-Alfa International (EAI) achieved a significant milestone. Six months after its record-breaking IPO, the electrical equipment manufacturer has been included in the BET index, the BVB's primary index of the 20 most liquid companies. Since its listing on March 3, 2026, EAI's share price has risen by over 87%, reaching 16.6 lei per share, with a market capitalization of approximately 3.1 billion lei.
