Bucharest to face hot‑water outages as heating network and power plant undergo major repairs

The municipal heating company (CMTEB) announced extensive replacement, modernization and repair work on Bucharest’s thermal‑energy network. Hot‑water supply will be halted at 72 points serving roughly 1,100 apartments between 22 June and 3 July, and at additional sites affecting 386 blocks and 60 blocks in separate zones during late‑June. Restarts will be staged as each segment is completed.

Electrocentrale București (ELCEN) also launched an emergency programme to restore the CET Bucharest West power plant after transformer failures and other damage in April‑May 2026. The plant is slated to return to normal operation by mid‑October to mid‑November 2026, with emergency procurement for new transformers and generator sets. Hot‑water provision has been maintained by diverting load to the CET Grozesti facility during the restoration period.
