Bucharest to host 2028 UEFA Europa League final at Arena Națională

The UEFA Executive Committee has officially designated Bucharest as the host city for the 2028 UEFA Europa League final. The match will take place at the Arena Națională, marking the second time the stadium hosts this European final, following the 2012 event where Atletico Madrid defeated Athletic Bilbao.

Romanian Football Federation (FRF) President Răzvan Burleanu hailed the decision as a significant act of sports diplomacy and a unique opportunity to accelerate professional football in the country. The successful bid was a collaborative effort involving the FRF, the Bucharest City Hall, and the Romanian Government.

In preparation for the event, Bucharest Mayor Ciprian Ciucu announced an extensive modernization program for the Arena Națională. Planned works include structural repairs, roof maintenance, the installation of a new video wall, and upgrades to broadcasting and media systems. The city will also implement urban management and mobility plans to facilitate supporter movement from Henri Coandă International Airport to the stadium.
