Buchholz Stadtfest anniversary marked by violence and police intervention

The 50th anniversary of the Buchholz Stadtfest, held from September 18 to 20, saw large crowds participating in a three-day program of live music, parades, and local festivities. While much of the event was peaceful, several incidents of violence and property damage were reported.

On Friday evening, two young women aged 17 and 18 attempted to intervene in a physical altercation between two men. In response, one of the men allegedly spat on and threatened the women before fleeing. A 28-year-old suspect was later identified and received a ban from the premises; investigations are ongoing regarding assault, threats, and insults.

Late Friday night, a larger brawl broke out involving chairs and bottles, leading to five minor injuries. The situation escalated when bystanders reportedly obstructed police officers during their attempt to detain a 20-year-old suspect. Police required additional reinforcements from the district and the use of irritant gas to restore order. Authorities are pursuing multiple criminal proceedings for assault and attacks on law enforcement officers.
