Buckingham Palace to host major 500-year royal jewelry exhibition
The Royal Collection Trust has announced a landmark exhibition titled ‘Royal Jewellery: From Coronations to Keepsakes,’ set to open at Buckingham Palace’s King’s Gallery in June 2027. The nine-month event will feature more than 300 pieces of jewelry spanning five centuries, from the 16th century to the present day.
Approximately two-thirds of the items will be displayed to the public for the first time. Notable pieces include cufflinks reportedly worn by King Charles I on the day of his execution in 1649, an emerald and diamond necklace from the Margaret Greville bequest, and a diamond and sapphire brooch gifted by Prince Albert to Queen Victoria before their 1840 wedding.
The exhibition aims to explore the evolution of royal jewelry from symbols of wealth and status to tools for shaping the monarchy’s modern image. While the Crown Jewels will remain at the Tower of London, this collection will showcase items created for coronations and significant royal occasions, displayed alongside historical paintings, designs, and documents.
