Buckler’s Hard Museum offers free wartime history exhibition

Buckler’s Hard Museum will offer free admission from September 11 to 13 as part of the Heritage Open Days event. Located in a historic village on the Beaulieu River, the museum will feature a program of expert talks and wartime history exhibitions.

Highlights include the ‘HMS Agamemnon Navigating the Legend’ exhibition in the Shipwrights Workshop, which details international efforts to protect the wreck of Admiral Nelson’s ship. Mary Montagu-Scott, chair of the Buckler’s Hard Shipyard Trust, is scheduled to give talks regarding preservation progress and diving experiences on September 11 and 13. Additionally, local historian Marc Heighway will discuss the Beaulieu River’s role in World War II on September 12.

Visitors may also board the HMS Medusa, a surviving Second World War Harbour Defence Motor Launch moored on the river. Other accessible sites include the Shipyard Gallery, the Shipwright’s Cottage, and St Mary’s Chapel. To access free entry, visitors must provide the code HOD26 at the admission desk.
