Buckwheat flowers drive sustainable tourism in Dong Van Karst Plateau
Buckwheat flower cultivation is becoming a vital component of sustainable economic development and poverty reduction in the Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark. In areas such as Minh Tan, Quản Bạ, and Yên Minh, these native flowers are transitioning from traditional crops to key assets within the local tourism value chain.
In Yên Minh, residents have already planted several hectares across various villages, while Quản Bạ plans to sow approximately 15 hectares. Local authorities aim to cultivate a total of about 400 hectares of buckwheat flowers across the region to create landscapes that support the year-end tourism season.
For border communes like Minh Tan, which is home to nine ethnic groups and a 96% minority population, the integration of tourism and indigenous advantages is a strategic approach to creating jobs and increasing household income.
