Bucovina named world’s most underrated travel destination for 2027

The Bucovina region in north-eastern Romania has been ranked as the world’s top underrated travel destination for 2027 by Time Out. The annual ranking highlights 41 global locations that offer distinctive scenery, traditions, and local experiences as alternatives to overcrowded hotspots like Venice or Barcelona.

Bucovina is noted for its mountain landscapes, historic architecture, and long-standing traditions. Key attractions include eight UNESCO World Heritage painted monasteries and churches, such as those in Voronet, Moldovita, and Sucevita, which feature vibrant biblical frescoes. The region also serves as a gateway to the 1,400-kilometre Via Transilvanica hiking route.

Other notable entries in the ranking include South Dakota in the United States, the Asturian cities in Spain, and Zambujeira do Mar in Portugal. The list reflects a growing travel trend toward slower, more dispersed tourism in rural areas and smaller communities.
