Buda Castle to host Protestant cultural events

The Reformed, Evangelical, Baptist, and Methodist churches will host the fourth annual ‘Protestant Majority’ event at Buda Castle to commemorate the anniversary of the Hungarian state foundation. The series of cultural, religious, and gastronomic programs begins with a thanksgiving service by the Ecumenical Council of Churches in Hungary at the Evangelical Church in Vienna Gate Square.

Scheduled activities for August 20 include interactive musical sessions for children, choir meetings, and an organ marathon. Round table discussions at the MTA Institute of Musicology will address topics such as the status of churches during socialism, the relationship between healing and God, and the potential applications of artificial intelligence in the church.

Musical performances at Kapisztrán Square will feature singer Szilvia Agárdi, the band Ötödik Évszak, and György Kéri on the Scottish bagpipes. The event will also include the oratorio ‘Látod-e, Isten?’, based on the ideas of retired Evangelical Bishop Tamás Fabiny. Other attractions include craft workshops, scout programs, and exhibitions at the Mária Magdolna Tower, including a retrospective on Bishop Lajos Ordass and a photography exhibition of Reformed architectural heritage in the Carpathian Basin.
