Budapest 12th District faces residential development controversy

Concerns have been raised regarding the rapid expansion of residential complexes in Budapest's 12th District. Despite campaign promises to protect the area's suburban character and green spaces, local leadership faces significant challenges in halting large-scale developments.

Gergely Kovács, co-president of the Hungarian Two-Tailed Dog Party, previously criticized the local government for failing to protect the district's values and for the loss of green areas to oversized residential projects. Following his election victory, it has become apparent that the municipality lacks the legal tools to prevent these developments, as developers may pursue multi-billion forint lawsuits for damages if zoning or land-use changes are implemented.
