Budapest advances major upgrade of Nyugati railway station and Rákosrendező line

A consortium of Infraplan Vasút- és Úttervező Zrt. and Trenecon Tanácsadó és Tervező Kft. secured a 1.087 billion‑forint contract to prepare the redevelopment of the railway corridor between Budapest‑Nyugati station and the Rákosrendező area. The scope includes a feasibility study, environmental impact assessment, permitting, detailed design and tender documentation.

Key elements of the plan are a new "second lírasor" platform at Nyugati II control centre, modernisation of the track layout, signalling, power and telecommunications systems, and the construction of new road links and park‑and‑ride facilities. The project also envisages a completely new Rákosrendező station with four platforms, enabling trains to depart toward Nyugati as often as every ten minutes and improving connections with lines 2, 70 and 71. The rail upgrade is part of a broader urban‑development scheme that aims to create a modern neighbourhood centred on rail transport, with pedestrian‑ and bicycle‑friendly connections to the city.
