Budapest Airport reports record passenger traffic
Budapest Airport has experienced its strongest summer on record, with over 2 million passengers traveling in July and August. Total passenger volume for the three summer months exceeded 6.2 million. This growth continued into September, which saw 1,955,581 passengers, surpassing previous summer figures.
The airport’s diversification strategy, aimed at increasing new destinations and airline partnerships, contributed to the surge. During the peak season from late March to late October, 160 destinations were available, including 24 new routes. Popular destinations for travelers from Budapest included London, Istanbul, Antalya, and Frankfurt. Inbound traffic was primarily driven by visitors from France, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
Transatlantic and Asian travel also saw significant increases. The return of flights to Philadelphia and Toronto boosted traffic from the United States and Canada. Additionally, direct flights to China and South Korea saw high seat availability and utilization.
In terms of logistics, June marked the highest monthly cargo volume ever recorded at the airport, handling 42,401 tons of goods, a 21.2 percent increase compared to the previous year.
