Budapest Concrete Mixer Truck Kills 23-Year-Old Cyclist

On a Wednesday afternoon, a concrete‑mixer truck struck a 23‑year‑old female cyclist at the intersection of Erzsébet körút and Király utca in Budapest’s District VII. The victim, a municipal nursery employee, died at the scene. Witnesses said the driver did not notice the collision; pedestrians attempted to signal the truck with whistles and hand gestures. Police have taken the driver into custody as a suspect.

Ferencváros mayor Baranyi Krisztina described the victim as a kind and well‑liked colleague. Budapest’s mayor Gergely Karácsony expressed condolences and announced immediate safety measures, including a review of the Nagykörút reconstruction plans, a study of mandatory blind‑spot detection for heavy vehicles, and a proposal to limit truck turning speeds to 10 km/h.
