Budapest Contemporary and Vienna Design Week showcase art and design

The Budapest Contemporary contemporary art and design fair has opened at Bálna Budapest, running until October 4. This year, the event has expanded to include a dedicated design section. A central feature is the ELLE Decoration stand, titled ‘A gyűjtő otthona’ (The Collector’s Home), a 400-square-meter installation conceptualized by ELLE Decoration editor-in-chief Judit Osvárt and interior stylist Tímea Tóth. The installation simulates a contemporary art collector's home to showcase how artworks, furniture, and design objects integrate into a living space.

In addition to traditional paintings, graphics, and sculptures, the fair now incorporates contemporary jewelry and fashion. This expansion aims to explore the boundaries between fine arts, design, and wearable objects.

Meanwhile, the 20th anniversary of Vienna Design Week is taking place across 80 locations in Vienna through October 4. The festival focuses on sustainability and the role of design in urban and global life. A notable exhibition, ‘Critical Utopia – Possible Futures,’ is a joint presentation by Collegium Hungaricum and Budapest Metropolitan University (METU). The exhibition explores sustainable fashion and material experimentation, featuring innovative uses of recycled materials and natural elements.
