Budapest Court lifts detention for politicians in park corruption case

The Budapest Metropolitan Court has lifted the detention of several politicians involved in a corruption case concerning park maintenance in the Buda area. Instead of imprisonment, the suspects have been placed under criminal supervision, which includes restrictions to their designated residences and the requirement to wear tracking devices.

The court noted that while risks of flight, influencing evidence, or recidivism still exist, further detention is no longer deemed necessary due to the suspects' personal circumstances, the time already served in custody, and the progress of the investigation. The decision was made following a motion by the Central Investigative Prosecutor's Office.

The suspects involved in the investigation include Gergely Őrsi, the current mayor of the II. District; Zsolt Láng, the former Fidesz mayor of the same district; and Zsolt Molnár, a former MSZP Member of Parliament. The case stems from allegations regarding park maintenance contracts issued between 2011 and 2024.
