Budapest expands Angyalföld tram depot for new CAF fleet

Budapesti Közlekedési Központ (BKK) has announced the commencement of a design contract to modernize and expand the Angyalföld tram depot. This infrastructure project is a critical component of Budapest’s fleet renewal program, specifically designed to accommodate the delivery and operation of 51 new CAF trams.

The expansion includes the construction of a new maintenance and operation hall, the installation of a sand supply system for trams, partial reorganization of internal depot lines, and the modernization of 18 track switches. The project, awarded to Kulcsár Építészstúdió Kft. for approximately 142.75 million forints, is funded by European funds through the IKOP Plusz program.

Technical documentation is expected to be finalized by early 2028. The development aims to increase the proportion of modern, low-floor vehicles on the Pest side of the city’s tram network.
